The Ladykillers of Orton Brimbles
23rd – 27th Jan
Key Theatre Studio, Peterborough

Continuing their tradition for mad-cap spoofs, this year Eastern Angles have turned to the Ealing Comedies of the 1950s for inspiration with an off-the-wall re-telling of The Ladykillers.

The company always like to inject a sense of Eastern Anglian atmosphere into their scripts and make a point of poking fun at regional eccentricities.

This year’s Christmas show will be tailored to local audiences with one version for the Ipswich and Woodbridge contingent, followed by a special adapted script for the people of Peterborough.

With this policy in mind, writer Harry Long has come with two separate titles; ‘The Ladykillers of Humber Doucy Lane’ and ‘The Ladykillers of Orton Brimbles’. The first title references a well-known leafy lane in North Ipswich, the second a New Town residential area in South West Peterborough.

Eastern Angles are known for ‘spoofing’ well-known literary figures, books and films. In the past the likes of Agatha Christie, Charles Dickens, Lord Peter Wimsey and the Tudors of Wolf Hall have all come in for a comedic battering.

What the press have said about Eastern Angles’ Christmas shows…

“A spoof to end all spoofs – worthy of a West-End transfer” Clare Brennan, The Observer

“A high level of invention and genuine sense of fun” The Stage

“The perfect cure for those winter blues!” East Anglian Daily Times

The Ladykillers of Orton Brimbles will be performed at the Key Theatre Studio in Peterborough.
