Festival Launch Day: Saturday 23 May 2015
Festival Fringe Events: Saturday 23 – Sunday 31 May 2015

The Peterborough Green Festival is back, even bigger and better than ever before! Join us in the city centre on Saturday 23rd May for a fantastic celebration of all things green. Now in its 23rd year, the Green Festival is an annual event that launches the city’s festival season in style.

Bringing together community groups, charities and businesses, there will be a great variety of events and activities running throughout the day in celebration of everything “green,” offering plenty of fun for the whole family. Launch day will be held in Cathedral Square, St John’s Square and Cowgate.

The festival will include exciting environmental-themed art works by local artists who have been specially commissioned to highlight sustainability issues in innovative and engaging ways.

There will also be a large variety of activites to get involved in on launch day including:

• Heritage craft (Willow weaving, carving, woodturning and more).
• Learning about waste reduction and recycling
• Using nature as inspiration
• Arts and crafts using recycled materials
• Discovering about creating wildlife spaces
• Sustainable transport activities
• Learn about local, seasonal food
• Live music
• Dance performances
• Cycle-powered sound system
• Photobooth
• The Lifeboat (participatory meditation installation)
• Children’s Playbus
• And much more!

In addition there will also be Children’s University activities going on throughout the day to raise children’s awareness of local organisations and green spaces around Peterborough, as well as other green practises such as heritage crafting, local food, farming, biodiversity and recycling. Children visit a minimum of four stands using our Green Festival Children’s University checklist and get their learning verified by various providers.

Fringe events will then take place across the city and surrounding areas until Sunday 31st May. These will include a cycle-powered outdoor cinema event, an eco-Swish clothing swap evening, farm walks, rambles, cycle rides, and much more!

This year’s festival, sponsored by Travelchoice and with funding from the Arts Council, will be based on the theme of sustainable transport. The Green Festival is run by the Peterborough Environment City Trust and is a free event for the benefit of all residents and visitors to the city.
